The greatest thing since sliced bread? Microsoft Antispyware

Now I consider myself to be a safe PC user.  But guess what….  it turns out that I am not.

Today, I downloaded Microsoft’s AntiSpyware Beta 1 product and to my amazement, I had a keylogger spyware program sitting on my PC plus a couple of other minor spyware apps.  I could not believe it…

So, going against my usual advice of staying away from beta releases on production networks, I am going to give this product a thumbs up and say install it…  NOW

Good to hear you had something I was starting to think it was broken.

I even loaded on a Machine I keep in my DMZ, as an admin, surfing dodgy sites and still nothing very disappointing perhaps I have not found the good bits of the net.

Greatest thing since sliced bread?? Definitely not. There are a plethora of other tools that can get the job done better. HijackThis, SpywareBuster, Adaware, SpybotS&D. Microsoft is late to this market. I expected better from the product.

Let’s hope once its fully released that the product is better.

One note that I will be postive on, I am glad the Microsoft is finally seeing the light and addressing the serious holes in their OS.

    Good day..

Hey Chuck, Thanks for posting 🙂

I agree that this does not replace alot of tools from other vendors. I myself use Ad-Aware, Spybot and Hijack this.

For me, the Microsoft Antispyware beta and beta 2 has been the only product to detect and remove "in an easy manner" crap of some test machines here. That said, Hijack This was used in conjunction with one of them… can’t remember which now.

It is one of those situations where no single product will be perfect. There are just too many spyware / adware products out there…

As you say, the "Greatest thing since sliced bread" is the fact that MS are providing this "to the masses" for free, that has to be great news. Microsoft AV and IE7 will soon follow and they are well overdue.

    Cheers,

    Nick
