VSS Permissions issue
I was working today on a 2012R2 server that would give random error messages during the backup relating to registry permissions. Unexpected error calling routine RegOpenKeyExW In my case this was showing FRS and WINS VSS issues, but vssadmin list writers would show all error free. In the end, to fix this issue, I checked further into the details tab… Read more →
Stuck in reboot and cannot rename pending.xml file?
“We couldn’t complete the updates Undoing Changes Don’t turn off your computer” loop? Yes, so were we today and it was a pain in the ass to get that Pending.xml file out of there, even with full admin rights. Server stuck in endless Windows Update Reboot?
Yes, that happens from time to time. You have already cleaned up Windows Update, you have reset the Software Distribution folder. Most Partners I have spoken to are in agreement. YES, you should have IUR for products you are actively trained and selling. However, Silver and Gold partners that are… Read more →
Microsoft Flight Simulator Returns
Its not often I get that feeling of being a kid again, but let me tell you… the moment I saw the E3 announcement about Flight Simulator returning to us, it all came flowing back. It was actually the reason I even came back here to look at my blog and think about putting it back to work. This… for… Read more →
Microsoft ending Internal Use Rights for Partners
Microsoft this week have made, what some consider, a massive statement to their Partners. No more Internal Use Rights (IUR) for you. The message has not gone down well with Partners around the globe, and a petition was already setup and is heading towards 3000 signatures at the time of writing. Microsoft Inspire is a week away, and I would… Read more →
