Post Upgrade to Windows 10 – 2004, Broken DirectAccess

For a few weeks we have been fighting with an issue where Windows 10 was upgraded from 1909 build to the new 2004 build and then DirectAccess Stopped Functioning.

I troubleshooted this with Microsoft PSS team and they did not find the issue, but after some troubleshooting today, I have found that removing ESET Endpoint Antivirus 7.3.2032.0 fixes the issue immediately. More on why when I get an answer from them!

Did you hear back from ESET on this? We are experiencing same issue with ESET breaking DirectAccess, and uninstalling ESET fixes the issue. We have a case open with them and have sent them logs

No, they did “not have any other reported cases” 🙂

Any news on this? Also have a few machines that lost DirectAccess after the upgrade to 2004. We also use ESET. Found the machines in question were missing some group policy information. Reconnected the machines via VPN, did a GPUPDATE, and back in business.
