Man, I really wish this crap was over. To me, it looks like this may be the major turning point in the whole HD DVD / Blu-Ray mess.
I presume that Microsoft will simply release a Blu-Ray player for the Xbox 360 😉

There’s 3 paths MS could go here:
1. Release a Blu-Ray drive for XBox 360.
2. Don’t release drive, but allow for XBox Live to consume newly (rumored) NetFlix ondemand service.
3. Continue to obstinately insist on HD-DVD winning out.
Unfortunately, I’m only seeing one of those as the most likely scenario.
Which? I am interested 🙂
I do not think Microsoft are that “blinkered” to think that HD DVD is the only way forward. I also think they understand that in a lot of the world people still have crappy internet connections (myself included).
So… I still believe that a Blu-Ray drive will happen, and I am willing to bet that somewhere in the Millenium Buildings of Microsoft there is a prototype of such a device.
Maybe you’re right. I also agree that the sooner the religious war of Blu-Ray or HD-DVD is over, the better.
I’m curious to find out what, if any, plans MS might have to battle/partner-with Netflix. I’d imagine that Neflix’s 6000 movie on-demand service, which they appear to be setting up a service that hardware providers consume, would definitely make the XBox’s rental service that much more compelling.
we’ll see.
great blog btw.
