MSHTML.DLL Crashes, IE7 (March 20th Build) and Google Desktop

I had some pretty major crashing on the new build of IE7 whereas the previous build worked just fine.   The error reported is:

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 7.0.5335.5, faulting module mshtml.dll, version 7.0.5335.5, fault address 0x000d850d.

For those that do not browse the usergroups, the fix that worked for me is to disable the Web History checkbox in Google Desktop indexing options.

Removing the “Web History Checkbox” fixed a crashing problem for me too. My fault address was a bit different 000d7713, but the problem is now gone. THANKS.

I was able to isolate the IE7 problem to the opening of a new child window when using a or javascript window.open. The child would always load fully and then crash about 2 seconds later. I created a very simple web page to prove this is all it took.

I know Google and Microsoft arent very good friends, but ….

Same here on a Danish Windows XP version of with Desktop Google and iexplore.exe, version 7.0.5335.5

    modul mshtml.dll, version 7.0.5335.5, fejlagtig adresse 0x000d7713.

    feljagtig adresse = Wrong address.

Solved by disable Google Desktop Search Weboversigt as others have found. Thanks..

Firefox 2.0 is still my primary browser, though. IE7 still doesn’t come close for compatibility, security, or features.

Wonderful! I spent weeks trying to reinstall IE6 and IE7 (following various leads on the internet, mostly related to IE6) and then it turns out that it is related to Google Desktop! A good thing Firefox was not affected by this problem, because the error occurred on the very first page IE7 goes to after installation, namely the one asking for a search provider!

This bug still occurs on a computer where Google Desktop was never installed.
Flushing the history could make it for a few minutes, but IE still crashes during regular surfing …

    any idea?

    Same issue different cause:

It would seem most if not all plugins and active X controls hook to the MSHTML.DLL

So in my case JAVA and Google did not resolve it it was every time the user went to a site with any Flash graphics. Disable the Flash plugin IE stable but of course no Flash graphics load. Reinstall the Shockwave Flash plugin – issue resolved.

So you may have to work through disabling and reinstalling several plugins to fix this issue.

Thank you for the Informations… I had great troubles by correkting the browser settings fast enough before the error message appeared and freezed the IE7 browser window…Frame with the error: “AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 7.0.6000.16674 ModName: mshtml.dll
    ModVer: 7.0.6000.16674 Offset: 0003c2a5”

    By Keeping on hunting the
“Tools” -> Delete Browsing History” I succeded eventually fast enough..After Deleting… I could set up another default search engine at the little pull down arrow at the “Magnifier class”. Left click again and setup the “Change Search Defaults” for making permanent setting. Without you information I’d never come through.. Even though the Firefox did the job as long as I could search your sollutions at the internet. I’d already tried to roll back to IE6 and to install XP sp3 but the error kept on until the solution above.. Microsoft homepage dissapointed in no help to the issue

I just came across this error as well. (no google software installed) For me, the error started happening every time I hit “home” with my home page set to “www.msn.com.” (crashed using the default as well — has a different address but still pointed to msn.com)

I just pointed “home” to a different site and the problem went away. Oddly, you can add msn.com as a second homepage without the error showing up. I guess the error just happens if MSN’s homepage is at the top of your “home pages” list. Dunno if it will work for you, but it’s worth a shot.

worked for me after trying other solutions. You could have explained the method in more detail.

Select ‘tools’ menu. In IE browser.
    Select ‘Delete browsing history’.
    Select ‘Delete all’.
Select check box ‘also delete files and settings stored by add-ons’.

    Select ‘yes’.
    And close.

facts are mshtml.dll is always involved. Ms have some fix for ie6 or 7, but I have ie8 and the time to failure is about 2 sec. Deleting history has absolutely no effect on my pc. The problem also arises with other apps, like restore points, which uses rstrui.exe and the above dll. If I remove google and use bing or daemon the error still appears after a few seconds. I don’t think it has anything to do with google add-ons. It is the explorer environment itself. That MS have no answer only means they are as clueless as any of us.
happy hunting, where are the big guns?

I have IE 8 and Outlook 2003 SP3 and my outlook crashes when ever I select some emails (I have the option view reading pain -> Right) as it wants to view specific messages outlook crashed. I changed the Google desktop settings as well but nothing changed for the crash. I dont think it has to do anything with Google desktop search. The error report of Outlook contains:

    AppName: outlook.exe AppVer: 11.0.8217.0 AppStamp:480f95d9
    ModName: mshtml.dll ModVer: 8.0.6001.18876 ModStamp:4b2fc8fc
