Media Centre PC's – why I am holding off…..

Today, Susan Bradley posted about Media Centre PC / SBS in the home…    Take a read

As you can see by my response on that post, I am also not happy with the fact I cannot network Media Centre into my house SBS network.   Jeeze… that really sucks Microsoft!

Anyway, I am holding off for the moment.    Once Microsoft allow us to join a domain and support European cable and satellite providers, I will go out and spend my hard earned money on one of these fancy systems.    Whilst I am not taking away from the move MS is making on these Media Centre PC’s, I think they have a long way to go.

For the moment, I am saving up for a Pluto home control system….  Running on Linux.  This system is self updating, phone, security, networking, TV solution and ROCK’s.

Come on now Nick, saying "I cannot network media center" isn’t REALLY true now is it it?

You can not domain join. You can still drop it on the network and access resources going both ways. You can still access any of your files on either side.

Lack of domain join makes it a bit harder to do integration, granted, but it’s not as bad as you’re making it out to be either. 🙂

Hey Eric… glad you dropped by. OK… you have a fair point 🙂

I still cannot see the mentality in not allowing domain join. I know, personally, of three friends (not all techies) that run SBS in the home already.

Why make the product difficult to integrate….?

Microsoft have diabled the UI to add Media centre to a domain but you are able to still use this netdom command

Ah ha! Thank you sir… I am also led to believe that you can join the domain during the setup. Thanks!
