Sage Line 50 2009 on Windows 7

OK, A quick issue I found today with Windows 7 and Sage 50 2009.

If you export invoices, statements, or in fact any report to email using the PDF Sage driver you will get an error that says:

“Unable to install printer”

As a work around for the moment, you need to run the application as administrator.   Grrrrrr.    Lets hope that Sage fix it, and don’t blame Windows 7 for trying to protect you from an administrative change.

I have found that if you install Sage you will get the error regarding the Alumini PDF driver, if you dont have the latest sage updates I have found if you goto :

http://www.sageinvoicing.com and install their free invoicing program this will install the driver too.

Magic Sage Line 50 now works, and you dont need to pay your sage update fee.

RB – Have you found a solution to this yet? I have the same problem. Can’t use the “run as admin” work around as the Sage data is on a server and local admin cannot access the network drive – doh!

I cannot see the PDF printer under printers either.

    Windows 7 and Sage Accounts 2009 (v15)

Sage rather unhelpfully state that they’ve tested 2009 and that it works correctly with Windows 7!

Sage are releasing a service pack for this.

Yeah, I have a workaround, but wait for the SP…. because the workaround is not good for Sage 🙂

You could try running the Sage PDF patch for v13. This will install the SagePDFPrinter. Worked well for v15, should work for 16.

That does not work. The issue is you need the latest Amyani driver….

Only Sage can provide that, unless you have Sage’s key 😉

Am running Windows 7 x64 with Sage Accounts 2008, printing reports to PDF kept crashing until I tried running as administrator, which now works great. Thanks for the tip!

I’ve spoken again with Sage support today – an updated Win 7 driver was put on the website but then withdrawn as it created issues elsewhere. They are currently waiting on approval for the new driver from Amyuni and will then presumably put on sage.co.uk/updates and hopefully on the Accounts 50 auto update function. It effects Accounts 2010 and Payroll. The issue is that Windows 7 requires the PDF driver to be verified and it isn’t currently able to. A work around could be to print to a 3rd party PDF creator.

  13. January 14, 2010 at 8:13 am

I’ve sorted it although it may be temporary.

Just download and install the Amyuni PDF Converter v4.

    http://www.amyuni.com/en/developer/pdfconverter/trial.html

Install this (ticking the install PDF Printer option) and call the printer SagePDFPrinter and it works fine.

It will probably stop in a few weeks but at least I can send my invoices now! 🙂

Hopefully the proper Sage version will be out soon.

Installed sage L50 on windows 7, succesfully lets me in, but when I try to run certain old reports, it tells me it is converting them and then stops responding, try to login again and get the message ‘sage.sbd.platform.installation.softwareupdates.UI has stopped working’

    Please help

    thanks

Sorted it, for free. Installed Sage Line 50 version 12 onto Windows 7 64bit. All seemed well until I tried to do bank reconciliations. That is because Sage writes its reports out as PDFs. Downloaded PrimoPDF and installed. Renamed the PrimoPDF to SagePDFPrinter and all works.

I have used CutePDF free version and then renamed as
SagePDFPrinter and this works fine with no time limits

when you say you renamed it, do you mean you renamed the .exe file :S?

Thanks to all who commented about the Sage pdf printer issues in Windows 7. I am setting up a new installation (Sage 50 Accounts Pro 2009, Version 15.01.20.0191 on WIndows 7) and would also appreciate any insight on the following:

The data filter code below (to exclude low value over/under payments from a customer statement) works fine when called from Preview in Report Designer; when the same statement template is called from Customer List I get the ‘No data was returned for this report’ window.

    AUDIT_SPLIT.INV_REF NOT LIKE “REVAL” AND LETTER_TYPE.LETTER_TYPE = 4 AND Unsigned (AUDIT_SPLIT.FOREIGN_GROSS_AMOUNT) > 1.5

Also, when I set the report contents to be sorted by date or invoice reference, there is no effect on the order of presentation. (Sage posting number used by default).

    Thanks!

    -Neil.

I can’t load sage update onto my windows 7 machine, every time i try i get message about sage platform installation has stopped working. I am using sage 50 accounts. Any ideas, have reinstalled program but still won’t work?

I have struggled with this one over the last few days. We hacve Sage line 50 2009 running happily on a SBS Server 2003 and then the client machines use Windows 7 (64-bit) and 1 machine still has XP. Two of the Windows 7 machines work fine , the Xp works fine but another Windows 7 machine displays all this crashing nonsense every time we open and try to update Sage. I have loaded all the pdf stuff suggested and that still doesn’t work – even the 2.5 version suggested in Sage’s download section. On this particular machine I have even reloaded Windows over the top of existing installation and copied all Sage and Common File Sage Directories from one of the 7 machines that do work to this one – yet still the error comes up.

    Hi there

I had the same problem with the PDF printer in Sage and I fgound this article that solved the problem for me when I followed the instructions for Vista.

The shock horror FACT about this printer is that SAGE do NOT expect it to be used in the traditional way that we use every other printer (inc Adobe PDF Printer).

The printer and associated drivers are there to “SAVE AS… “PDF files.

I like many others expect it to work the same way as Adobe whereby it opens a window with the pdf view and then you can print it on an attached printer if needed.

Works first time, everytime when you do this but SAGE really do need to address this before the hundreds that get frustated with it waste anymore time.

Come on SAGE… When you click the PRINT button it would be great to see it work like the Adobe PDF maker and not just produce an error message.

I have Sage 2010 and Windows 7 – as advised by Sage -and have the PDF file problem. I didn’t want to buy the new Sage version, but was forced to when I bought a new PC with Winbdows 7. I also have as problem loading files. To load monthly statements, for example, takes around 10 minutes. How long will take for Sage to resolve these problems? At present I feel they got monmey out of me on false pretences.

My financials data stopped recording on 15th March 2010 but every thing else, except bank reconciliations. I did not notice this until now and that date was about when I swapped PC’s to windows 7. Do know if this is just a coindince.

Hi had problems with e-mail options in sage reporting to mail statements/letters etc, just had a new computer with windows 7 on. Could not print/printer error. My boss changed my user setting so I had full settings and it has worked!!! Now e-mailing everything again. Did speak with sage and they said it is a known error and they are still working on pdf driver to try and sort it. Mind you, I updated their pdf reader as they said, changed user setting and all is working as before. Hopefully this might help some of you

I’ve installed Sage 50 Accounts 2010 onto my new Laptop with Windows 7 professional as the OS. It has been running well for a couple of months but now has told me that an update is needed but won’t let me update because of this Sage.SBD problem not working. I’m pulling my hair out. ANY ideas.

This is the solutions to SBD platform has stopped working.

This update fixes the following issues:
Automatic updates – Sage.SBD.Platform.Installation.SoftwareUpdates…has stopped working.
When you try to open Sage Accounts, the splash window appears briefly then disappears and the program does not open.
To download the Sage SBD Desktop Installer Utility (Build 111)
Access the Updates page on the Sage website: http://www.sage.co.uk/support > Downloads > Updates.
Note: You must log in to view this page. To do this, click Log in, enter your email address and password for the Sage website, then click Log in.
From the drop-down list, choose Line 50 & Sage 50 Accounts then click Go.
Locate the Sage SBD Desktop Installer Utility (Build 111) then click Download.
From the File Download window, make a note of the file name, for example, sbddesktopbuild111.exe, then click Save.
From the Save As window, browse to the required destination, for example, your Windows desktop, then click Save.
The Download window appears showing the progress of the download and the estimated time to complete.
Once the download is complete, if required, click Close.
You have now successfully downloaded the Sage SBD Desktop Installer Utility (Build 111). For instructions on how to install this, click the Install it tab.
