Comments on FSX and some feedback from the ACES Team

I have sure been getting a lot of traffic on the blog since the release of FSX.   There were over 50 comments posted to this thread, but I simply had to remove most of them because they were unconstructive or just plain insulting / rude towards the ACES team.

For those that posted the nasty comments.   DO YOU REMEMBER WHAT IT WAS LIKE BEFORE!   When we had NO feedback or information from the team?   Yes, the same team that I and plenty of others spent a LONG time convincing to start blogs, communicate, work with us….   would you prefer the Flight Simulator team just went back to the release a version, dissapear for two years, release another version method?

Sorry for shouting, but STOP AND THINK before posting.   You can put forward your concerns and be firm…  just don’t resort to rudeness, I cannot abide it.    I am one of only a few FS Related blog sites where the comments are not immediatly moderated, I would like to keep it that way, but if this continues I will be left with no choice but to check every post made here.

Now onto the good news! Paul has just posted on his blog about the areas that the team are working on at this time.

Indeed, Nick, well said. There’s a way to provide honest, respectful feedback. And as the ACES constantly ask for: state specific, measurable issues, with system stats, etc.

And it is promising to see Paul say that the ACES are taking a focused look at performance. Folks are anxious in particular for performance info; I’ve had more than 10,000 hits on that issue on my blog in the last few weeks. The good news in the feedback I’m getting is that many people are getting acceptable improvements through the many tweaks now available. Particularly on the Gamespot forum (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/sim/microsoftflightsimulatorx/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-31272068&pid=931252&page=0), there are some happy campers. (And a minimal amount of wingeing, I might add!)

I am the developer of ATCsimulator® line of products. I would like to speak with Mike Zyskowski because I am a developer interested in using the SimConnect API with Visual Basic .NET. It is claimed in documentation, and at various Microsoft support sites that SimConnect can be used with VB.NET, yet the only examples given are in C#. Using one of the best conversion programs for C# to VB.NET, the Managed Data Example fails miserably to run when converted. So, any assistance by the developer coordinator would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would just like to express my thanks to the ACES Team for a great job done on the new SP1 and SP1A releases. My FSX environment works like a dream…

Also, I’m currently developing several add-ons (hardware and software based devices) for FSX, using the SimConnect SDK for C#. I’ve hit a road-block in the API when I try to use the ExecuteMissionAction() and CompleteCustomMissionAction() methods – issues with the _GUID structure. Can you please point me in the right direction for some help.

    Greatly appreciated,

I am a member of an online FSX community based in the UK, and we hold sessions for members based out of the UK. Until SP1 our tower controllers on the multi player sessions had no problems at all, but since SP1 they regularly get comms lag, radar screen freezes and eventually total hangs of the session. This requires a re boot and leaves pilots without ATC cover. Members in the sessions flying see the banner across the top of the screen showing us as left the session when the game hangs. Members not running SP1 and operating in the tower as Air Traffic Controllers do not experience the problem.

This happens to multiple players, so isn’t simply a hardware of software issue with one person, and all have SP1 installed.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so does anyone know what causes it and a possible fix?

    Thanks

Hi… just new to DV.net and SimConnect and have the one managed sample running. I was wondering if there is an available back of corresponding VB.net manages code examples to mirror the C# examples.

I’d like to get up to speed on this and am looking for any progress on this front I can find.

    Thanks,

    Kevin
