Bye bye hotmail and yahoo.

GFI Mailessentials is fantastic.    Email antispam and control has never been easier for my offices SBS network.

Up until today however, even GFI’s filters were not catching 99% of the spam.    But I have taken a major step…    I have blocked entirely the @hotmail domains and the @yahoo domains.

Why?    Simple…   they are the domains that are sending about 35% of the spam to my exchange server.  Unless you are specifically on my whitelist with a hotmail or yahoo address…    expect your emails to never reach us.

There is no excuse for even a home user not to own your own domain name!

What does your company do that you do not need to contact or be contacted by hotmail/yahoo users. We work with several small businesses as a consulting firm – they would have our heads for implementing such a measure. Sure, spam we’ll be much easier. But, that represents a lot of potential customers and even clients (construction sub-contractors) which would be an incredible pain to whitelist. Not to mention information requests.

That’s pretty bold, but I really don’t think it’s a good idea for most small businesses – unless you only interact with businesses.

    Hi Rob,

Lycos was added to the list today 😉

We deal with small businesses, some of which have “free” domain accounts. That small group of people are on our white list. (In fact, any person we send to gets added to the whitelist).

But… as you say, we only deal with businesses, not home users.
